By KAREN CAMPBELL Assistant Managing Editor A 6-year-old Wapakoneta girl playing T-ball for the first time said she wanted to do it to be like her older sister. Aryka and Alyssa Watt, 6- and 8-years old, respectively, play for Bayliff & Eley’s team that started their season in June. “I like to hit the ball, run the bases,” Aryka said after a game last week. She also enjoys the time making new friends and being with her sister.
Aryka, the daughter of Michelle and Shawn Watt, may want to do everything like her older sister, but she’s not the youngest in the family. The girls have a 4-month-old sister, Alyson. They also have an older brother, Tyler Watt, 15. Aryka says she’s having fun her last summer before starting kindergarten at Centennial Elementary School in the fall. Her sister is going to be a second-grader at the school on Water Street. Aryka is looking forward to kindergarten so she can learn to read like her sister and meet new friends. This is the first year Aryka can ride roller coasters, as she’s finally 49-inches tall, and has already been to Cedar Point to ride all the roller coasters there and is planning a trip to Kings Island later in the summer. While she said she was excited and counting down the days until her first roller coaster ride, Aryka admits that her first time on the Magnum scared her to death. The rest of the summer will be spent with family camping, boating and tubing at Indian Lake and spending afternoons at the Wapakoneta WaterPark riding the new slide which goes “really fast.” In addition to T-ball, Aryka likes playing soccer and dancing. She takes tumbling classes. The 6-year-old loves listening to songs by Taylor Swift and from Hannah Montana and High School Musical. Her favorite song is “Right Here Right Now.” Since she just spent the night at her grandma’s, Aryka said her favorite food is her grandmother’s macaroni and cheese. She loves her pet cocker spaniel Buddy and her favorite color is purple.
