Kantner, Diltz qualify for zone championships By BRYAN CRAFT Sports Editor The Wapakoneta Wahoos swim team has come to the middle of the season, earning a first-place finish at the Lima YMCA Invitational Dec. 10 and placing two swimmers to the YMCA Great Lake Zone Championships.
Wapakoneta’s Royce Kantner qualified for zones in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.27 and the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.63. He competes in the 11-12 age group. Lima’s Zachary Diltz qualified in the 50 breaststroke in a time of 36.03. He is in the 11-12 age category. The 11-12 year old age group showed well at the Bowling Green State University Holiday Invitational. Zachary Diltz placed first in the 50 freestyle (25.41) and 200 freestyle (2:02.68). Also placing first were Zachary Dickman in the 100 freestyle (55.96) and Garrett Diltz in the 100 butterfly (1:06.48) and 200 individual medley (2:22.23). The 200 medley relay team of Dickman, Garrett Diltz, Zachary Diltz and Matthew Wilcox finished first with a time of 1:59.91. Also finishing first were the 200 freestyle relay team of Zachary Diltz, Drew Davis, Garrett Diltz and Matthew Wilcox with a time of 1:52.16. Chelsea Cadle finished first for the 13-14 girls in the 50 freestyle (26.55) and 100 freestyle (57.56). At the Lima Invitational, the 8-and-under girls 100 medley relay team of Julia Schoonover, Brianna Braun, Amanda Slechter and Jordyn Law finished first with a time of 1:44.43. Charlie Sutton placed first in the 25 breaststroke (23.31) and 25 butterfly (18.75) for the 8-and-under boys. Jacob Ruck took first place for the 9-10 boys in the 50 butterfly (44.02). The 200 medley relay team of Michael Zwez, Hayden Metzger, Ruck and Wesley Ruedebusch also placed first with a time of 2:59.12. The 200 freestyle relay team of Ruck, Metzger, Ruedebusch and Zwez also finished first in a time of 2:34.45. Aerika Wieser finished first in the 50 backstroke (33.91) for the 11-12 girls, while Nate Hager placed first in the 50 backstroke (33.72) for the 11-12 boys. Mitch Herold took first in the 50 freestyle (25.71), 100 freestyle (57.58) and 100 backstroke (1:06.44) for the 13-14 boys. Joshua Vondran finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:12.54). In the 15-and-over boys, Josh Ralston placed first in the 100 freestyle (55.85), 100 backstroke (1:04.90) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.98). |
