For 45 minutes, the roar of motorcycles could be heard passing under an American flag hanging from two ladder trucks. For 45 minutes, area residents gathered in the shadow of the Auglaize County Courthouse and Wapakoneta Fire Station waved and clapped as motorcyclists rode by.
The smiles and waves turned into clapping and cheers as the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall passed down Willipie Street on its way to Custenborder Field in Sidney where it was greeted by a field of American flags.

Man calls 911 for ride home
Friday, 03 April 2009
By KAREN CAMPBELL
Assistant Managing Editor
A 29-year-old Wapakoneta man who called 911 early Thursday morning for a ride home faces charges of improper use of the emergency system.
Joel Lee, 78 Autumn Lane, called police from a pay phone in the 100 block of West Pearl Street at 2:15 a.m. Thursday. Before hanging up he said, “I cracked my head,” then the phone went dead, Wapakoneta Police Chief Dave Webb said.
When they responded, officers found Lee was drunk, and he wanted help getting home. He began arguing with police.
Lee was charged with improper use of the 911 system, using it for something other than an emergency situation and persistent disorderly conduct for arguing with police about the call, Webb said.
Both are fourth-degree misdemeanors, carrying maximum penalties of 30 days in jail and $250 fines.
“These are rare charges for us, but it was obvious that’s what he was doing,” Webb said.
Lee has a history of charges included being found guilty of disorderly conduct while intoxicated in February. Several other of his previous charges have been drug related.
