Wapakoneta senior firefighter Don Wright has been awarded “Firefighter of the Year for 2013” by the Alvin W. Metzger VFW #8445.

Wright was on the auxiliary for three years before he started as a full-time firefighter. He has worked for the department for 25 years.

“I was on the auxiliary, and I found out it was something I’d like to do,” Wright said.

He said he enjoys his job because of the people he meets, but also because he enjoys helping people.
Wright was voted as firefighter of the year by his peers at the Wapakoneta Fire Department.

“I don’t know what made them pick me,” Wright said, noting how he was surprised. “I appreciate the good bunch of guys I’ve got here to work with.”
