Verizon to offer bookbag giveaway

July 25, 2014

As part of its national backpack giveaway campaign, The Cellular Connection (TCC) — the largest Verizon Wireless retailer in the U.S. — is donating between 75 and 300 backpacks full of school supplies to students in Wapakoneta.

On Aug. 2 between noon and 2 p.m., local residents will have the opportunity to pick up a backpack filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and other supplies from the local participating TCC store located on 1321 Bellefontaine St.

One backpack per child present will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. All leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools.

More than 350 TCC stores across the U.S. will be participating in the giveaway Aug. 2, with a total of 100,000 backpacks being distributed. Last year, the company donated 60,000 backpacks.

TCC Director of Customer and Employee Relations Ryan McCarty said the campaign, know as the “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway,” is part of the company’s “culture of good” movement that was launched last year.

“The ‘culture of good’ is an employee cultural movement of giving back to local communities,” McCarty said. “Our company’s passion is kids and education, so we wanted to include all employees in on giving back that way. The backpack giveaway is a major moment within our movement.”
