An approved variance and a variance denial became part of the official record Monday as Wapakoneta City Zoning Board of Appeals members read the changes into the record.
Residents receiving the variance still must wait at least four days before they can start with building a new porch in case a legal objection is filed by a neighbor.
Netty and Chad Poe, 1 W. Silver St., want to tear down an existing porch and to build a new porch that is 2 feet closer to the street. The porch would extend the full length of the house, which is 32 feet, 6 inches. The existing porch is shorter.
Board members approved the variance at their Aug. 29 meeting.
The Poes received a 25-foot front yard variance. They are working with Engineering Department Supervisor Mary Ruck regarding the proper permits for demolition and construction.
Board Vice President Russ Slonecker said a copy of the minutes will be filed with the variance.
They also read the rejection of a variance reuest by Brenda and David Ward, 310 Liberty Drive, to build a carport to keep snow and ice off their vehicle and to make for a shorter walk to the vehicle during inclement weather.
The proposed carport, which would be 12-feet wide and 21-feet long, would require a 35-foot variance if the carport was installed over the driveway at the front of the house and at least a 6-foot side yard variance if it was placed on the side of the house.
Several residents objected to the variance.
