Vandals strike: Messages spray painted on school offices

January 5, 2012

A vandal spray painted messages on the Wapakoneta City Schools Administration Building during the weekend.

Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner told the Wapak-oneta Daily News on Wednesday that the cleaning of three messages written on the building used to house administrative offices cost the district $100 in manpower hours.

According to an officer’s report from the Wapakoneta Police Department, the messages were written in red spray paint on two window screens and an electrical transformer on the north side of the building, located at 1102 Gardenia Drive.

The messages included, “Shame on you,” “We want the truth,” and “We taxpayers want the truth.”

The Wapakoneta Education Association (WEA) and the Ohio Education Association (OEA) are requesting Wapakoneta Police Chief Russ Hunlock to conduct a full investigation into the matter.

“The Wapakoneta Education Association is concerned and upset over the apparent vandalism to the Wapakoneta Schools Board of Education building,” OEA Labor Relations consultant Pat Johnson said. “As such, the WEA is calling for a full investigation by local authorities. The WEA is asking for a swift and full-report to be published as a result of the investigation by the Wapakoneta Police Department.”

The damage occurred between Sunday and Tuesday, when it was discovered.

Apparent Vandalism and Calling for a Full Investigation

If Pat Johnson's statement is truthful (and I have no reason to believe it isn't), why would an OEA Union Negotiator call on the local authorities to perform a full investigation for an act of "apparent vandalism". Does she know something she is not willing to share with those of us outside the "protection" of the union. I have a bad feeling that the contract negotiations between Wapak City Schools and the WEA/OEA is about to turn VERY ugly.

Although I fault our school administration staff with inflating their own salary before implementing a pay freeze for all others, I do stand behind them and our elected school board for taking a stand in regards to the current contract negotiations.

$100.00 for an hour and a half of work to clean paint off windows screens?? You could've re-screened them for 1/2 that much, and that includes labor to do the job!!!! Who is Horner kidding??? They don't even make that much at Ford!!! Funny.....it wasn't discovered until 2PM. Guess they were all in an "invitation only" pizza party!!

Horner needs to send out more resumes (he has sent out several already) before the school financial records are published! This administration has squandered sooooo much money!! When the good people of Wapak see this in writing, they will call for his head, so he really does need to get out of dodge before then!!
