Representatives from the United Way of Auglaize County are asking local residents to embrace the spirit of giving felt during the holiday season at its sixth-annual Christmas in July food drive this Saturday.

“Around the holidays people realize how blessed they are want to give back, so we’re just trying to raise awareness to the fact that those folks they’re helping are just as hungry this time of year,” United Way of Auglaize County Executive Director Randy Fisher said.

Donations of non-perishable food items and personal care products will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at several locations across the county.

Members of the United Way will be on hand to accept donations at the Community Market stores in Wapakoneta and Cridersville, the Wapakoneta Walmart, Kroger and Pantry Pride in St. Marys and Wagner’s IGA in Minster and New Bremen.

Volunteers will be handing out a list of needed items to shoppers as they enter the store and will collect the donations as they leave.

The list of needed food items includes canned fruits, vegetables, meats and soups, dry milk, crackers, ramen noodles, hot or cold cereals and spaghetti, among others. Personal care products that are needed include items such as diapers, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, soap and shampoo.
