The United Way of Auglaize County exceeded its 2013 monetary goal and looks to continue the success in 2014.

Executive Director of the United Way of Auglaize County, Randy Fisher said they raised $330,000 for 2013, and their goal was set at $325,000.

Fisher said that in the past, making goals has been a real problem for this county.

“To give you a short history of our United Way, making goal has been a real struggle for us,” he said. “There are other United Ways around us, the United Way of Greater Lima raises close to $2 million every year. The United Way of Shelby County raises $1.3 million every year; around us they raise these significant amounts of money, we don’t do that here.”

Though Auglaize County’s surrounding areas raise more money, the United Way here is taking steps in the right direction.

“We give it our best shot, and in 2011 we made goal for the first time since 1998,” Fisher said. “The goal that year was $300,000, we raised $302,000.
The next year we got ambitious and said we were going to raise $315,000, and we raised $301,000, and it was a tough year. 2012 was really tough in our neck of the woods.”
