A former Wapakoneta city administrator and Auglaize County native is the 2011 United Way campaign chair, a United Way of Auglaize County official announced this week.
New Knoxville Village Administrator Rex Katterheinrich agreed to serve as the United Way of Auglaize County campaign chair for 2011.
“I’m pleased to be able to work with Randy Fisher and the United Way Board to have a better opportunity to help those in need,” Katterheinrich said.
Katterheinrich, who served more than 25 years as Wapakoneta’s safety-service director, is involved in many organizations in the county, including Rotary Club of New Bremen-New Knoxville, The Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimists and The Wapakoneta Family YMCA where he serves on the Board of Trustees. He also is a member of the Wapakoneta Eagles, The Masonic Lodge - Mercer 121 and the New Knoxville United Methodist Church where he serves on the administrative board.
His involvement in the community

has been extensive for decades.
Katterheinrich and his wife, Janet, have been active in helping out with the United Way of Auglaize County organization, with previously serving to determine allocation of funds and are actively engaged with donations to the United Way. His wife works at Honda in Anna, and serves as campaign officer with Honda.
“I saw how the United Way benefits those who are in need of help,” Katterheinrich said. “I thought that if there was something I could do to help, this is what I could do to help at this time.”
Katterheinrich said he plans to personally visit community businesses and organizations in order to increase support for the United Way campaign.
“I am very honored to serve in this capacity,” Katterheinrich said. “I have known other chairmen in the past, and to have my name considered in the same breath as them makes me feel honored.”
United Way of Auglaize County Executive Director Randy Fisher welcomed Katterheinrich, who worked on several fundraisers for the Wapakoneta Family YMCA and YMCA scholarship fund.
“The board and staff are extremely excited that Rex will be the chairman for this year’s fundraising campaign,” Fisher said. “He is a well respected community minded leader who has been a key United Way supporter for several years and we are honored to have such a valued member of our community agree to lead our 2011 campaign.
“We had a much improved campaign last year under Charlotte Parson’s direction and I’m confident that Rex’s involvement will push us further in the right direction,” he said.
Fisher noted the responsibilities for the chair include seeking new cabinet members, attending special events for the campaign and working to plan and implement the fundraising effort.
The United Way of Auglaize County positively impacts the community by focusing on the building blocks to a better life: education, health and financial stability. They are a local organization serving local needs. For more information or to make a donation please contact our office at 419-739-7717 or visit our website at www.auglaizeunitedway.org.
