Mike Meiring, store manager at the True Value Hardware store on Defiance Street, points to replacement air filters for lawn mowers that he recommends people use while giving their mowers a spring tune up (Staff photo/John Bush).
Now that spring is here and the temperatures are warming up (a little bit), you may be thinking you want to start cleaning and organizing all the clutter that may have accumulated in your garage.
If you are unsure of how to get started, two local experts offered some tips on how you can make your garage as clean and decluttered as the day you moved into your home.
Before starting the cleaning process, it’s best to organize all the tools and other items in your garage to clear up space.
Ted Yewey, owner of the Sears store on Bellefontaine Street, said he sells products that would work well for storing anything from tools to cans of oil, or whatever else might be sitting in your garage.
“We have a lot of tool boxes on wheels that have drawers that people can use to get their tools organized,” he said. “We also have some two-door floor cabinets that you can set in your garage. Those have four shelves in them to store large or small things in.”
Smaller storage units run for about $130 and the largest unit that is used mostly for tools will cost you $1,275.
“The largest units have 19 drawers inside them of all different sizes,” Yewey said. “Those would be for a person who does a lot of work with hand tools that might need storage for those.”
For those who may not have as many tools and do not need that much storage, True Value Hardware Store Manager Mike Meiring said that hooks that can be hung onto the walls of your garage would work just fine.
“We sell peg board hooks, if you have a peg board in your garage,” he said. “We also have regular tool hangers that you can screw to the studs in your garage paneling, or whatever type of wall you have, and you can hang your rakes, shovels, tools or whatever else you have.”
