Swimming finds success at Van Wert Relays

VAN WERT —  The Wapakoneta boys swimming team proved to be the area’s best at the Van Wert Relays, as the Redskins took home first place.

The girls team, not that far off the boys mark, finished third behind Versailles and Bryan.

Combined the Redskins finished second, 14 points behind Versailles.

The meet featured 14 relays, Wapakoneta won one of them and finished second in five other events.

The relay team of senior Nate Hagar, freshman Michael Zwez, freshman Wesley Ruedebusch and sophomore Hayden Metzger won the 200 backstroke relay with a time of 2:13.50.

Hagar’s lead leg was clocked at an impressive 31.35.

Five relay teams in the competition finished in second place.

The girls 400 Medley Relay finished with a time of 5:10.13, good for second place. That team had sophomore Haley Kinstle, junior Stephanie Kessen, freshman Taylor Law and sophomore Josie Miller.

The girls 200 Fly Relay also finished second. Miller, freshman Sierra Sammons, Kessen and Law swam on that team which finished in 2:12.42.

The boys also finished second in the 200 Fly relay. Hagar, freshman Charlie Sutton, Zwez and senior Brandon Christler swam that relay in 2:06.47.

The girls 200 Breast Relay also had a strong showing in Van Wert. With a time of 2:50.30, sophomore Taylor Hagar, Kessen, Miller and Davis gave the Redskins 22 points for their total.

And finally, girls 400 Individual Medley Relay event was a good one for the Redskins. Law, Sammons, Miller and Kessen finished that race in 5:15.18.
