Wapakoneta High School teacher Aaron Stiger is sharing his passion for kayak fishing with students.

He began kayak fishing with some students at the end of last school year and they enjoyed it. He also held an informational meeting to see if any students would be interested in a kayak fishing club and 89 showed up, he said.

“That was really surprising to me, and so I said 'OK, well this is definitely something that we should pursue next year,'” Stiger said.

After nailing down some legalities, the kayak fishing club was passed during the Sept. 22 Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education meeting. The club is open to all high school students.

Stiger plans on holding more informational meetings this fall, which will give the students the chance to learn about things like kayak safety, as well as time to purchase a kayak for spring.
