Student shines at state contest

May 5, 2014

Austin Scott

A Wapakoneta High School student placed second in a statewide essay contest that featured submissions from more than 5,000 middle and high school students in 51 Ohio schools.

Senior Austin Scott had his essay selected as runner-up for the Laws of Life Essay Contest, a character-themed writing competition for students in grades six through 12. The contest is sponsored by the Better Business Bureau’s Center for Character Ethics.

Scott received the award on May 1 at the Ohio Statewide Awards Banquet at the Villa Milano in Columbus. He was one of 30 finalists to attend the banquet.

“It feels awesome because I’ve never really placed in a state competition before, whether it be athletic or academic,” Scott said. “It’s a real honor.”
