Starting with a pageant

Ten young women will vie for the Miss Summer Moon 2014 Scholarship Pageant Queen to be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 at the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center, 1 Redskin Trail, Wapakoneta. 

With a theme of “Where the Boys Are,” the pageant will kick off the beginning of the 2014 Summer Moon Festival with a talented performance by Brad Severt, Austin Drake and Micah Nicol. 

The event is sponsored by the Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce and is under the direction of chairs Phyllis Stoll and Lyn Severt. Admission at the door is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and ages 2 and under are free.

The grand prize for  this year’s winner is a $1,000 scholarship, with the first runner-up receiving $500, the second runner-up receiving $300 and the third runner-up receiving $200, as well as other gifts. The scholarship monies are courtesy of the Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce. 

The reigning Miss Summer Moon Queen is Jocelyn Campbell, daughter of Terry and Tami Campbell. She is a sophomore at Bowling Green State University, pursuing a degree in dietetics. 

Like all her predecessors, the next crowned Miss Summer Moon Queen will serve as a role model for young girls and participate in local community activities, including parades.
