SOFTBALL: Riverside no-hits W-G

April 3, 2012

WAYNESFIELD — Riverside Pirates pitcher Paige Atterholt threw a complete-game no-hitter as the Pirates rolled to a 13-1 five-inning run-rule win over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers in the Northwest Central Conference varsity softball opener for both teams Monday at Waynesfield-Goshen High School.

Atterholt struck out 10 batters and walked just two.  The Pirates committed two errors.

Sophomore catcher Josalyn Regendanz scored W-G’s lone run after she drew a one-out walk in the home half of the third inning.

Regendanz was the only Tigers base runner to get past second base in the game.

Riverside got all the offense it needed in the first inning, scoring four runs in the top half of the inning.

The Pirates added one in the second, five in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Dyer pitched all five innings for W-G.  She allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits, four strikeouts and two walks.

The Tigers committed five errors in the loss.

Whitney Jenkins led Riverside at the plate, knocking out two hits, including a double, and driving in four runs.

W-G returns to action at noon Saturday at Lincolnview.
