Named for his son, Jarett Jones opened up his shop on Nov. 1, 2008.
Jones is the owner of AMJ Skateshop, located at 34 E. Auglaize, a store that focuses on selling skateboards, parts, apparel and occasionally a BMX bike or two.
AMJ stands for Anthony Michael Jones, Jones’ 11-year-old son; the name also represents Anthony’s paternal and maternal sides of his family.
“Anthony is my mother’s side of the family, the Jones is my father’s side of the family, so combine the two,” Jones said. “And then Michael is my wife’s father’s name, so that’s how we came with his name.”
Jones’ logo has the AMJ going vertical, with the “skateshop” portion of the name coming in horizontally and using the ‘A’ from the initials as the ‘A’ in skateshop.
Jones said skateboarding became such a big part of his life at a young age. He thinks he was 11 or 12 when he got his first board.
“I was always involved in sports, athletics I guess and anything, and I remember seeing some older kids in town who rode BMX and that kind of intrigued me,” he said.
