Sidewalks underway: Cridersville state project almost completed

CRIDERSVILLE — New sidewalks are estimated to be in place and completed within the next week or two in Cridersville, the mayor says.

Crews are working on installing sidewalks in Cridersville to connect Main Street to the new Cridersville Elementary School on Reichelderfer Road.

“Work is happening on the west side of Carlisle Street and the east side of Reichelderfer Road,” Cridersville Mayor Lorali Myers said.

Myers noted she is pleased the project is almost complete, in time for the spring and upcoming walking season.

“We are hopeful that it will be open in the next week or so,” Myers said. “It’s wonderful.”

The sidewalk stretches from Main Street to the elementary school on Reichelderfer Road, along with a connecting sidewalk on Carlisle Street.

Myers said she is excited to see this project being completed after they received the grant from the Safe Routes to School Program, which granted them approximately $180,000 to build sidewalks in the village to the new Elementary School.

The new sidewalks provides safe traveling to the school by students, along with providing a walkway for the entire community to utilize.

The city of Wapakoneta is set to start construction on its first phase of sidewalks under the program this year. The city received $440,000 for sidewalks and is in the process of applying for an additional $500,000 for a second phase of sidewalks.

During this project, a new drainage system for the sewers was installed, along with causing some traffic delays as work was being done on the project.

Myers believes the new sidewalk will improve the quality of life in the community.

“It will give individuals an opportunity to walk,” Myers said. “It’s a nice path. It’s something I’m proud of.”
