Shirley Mae Engel, 82

Shirley Mae Engel, 82, formerly of 503 E. Auglaize St. in Wapakoneta, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home.

She was born April 2, 1930, in Cincinnati, to Frieda (Kattelman) and Louis Meier. On June 27, 1953, in Barnesburg, she married A. Eugene Engel, who died June 24, 2009.

Survivors include:   brother, Leroy (Hilda) Meier, of Mount Healthy; a  sister, Lois (Donald) Wingberger, of Cincinnati; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Engel, of St. Marys; one nephew and four nieces; and caregivers David (Charlene) Curry  of Wapakoneta.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frieda and Louis Meier; her husband, A. Eugene Engel; and a brother Howard Meier..

She is a 1949 graduate of Colerain High School.

She was a homemaker and had formerly been employed as a bookkeeper for Southwest Ohio Publishing Co. in Cincinnati.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys.

Her favorite pastime was bowling.

Rites are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Miller – Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., in St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
