Sam Swartz, 74, 690 Hillcrest Drive, St. Marys, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday July 8, 2013 at St. Marys Living Center.
He was born July 11, 1938 in St. Marys, to Cynthia (Davis) and Samuel Swartz, who preceded him in death. On April 25, 1965, he married Kathryn Katterhenry, who died Feb. 18, 1990.
Surviving are a son Paul (Sue) Swartz, of St. Marys; three grandchildren: Chelsey, Corey and Nick; a brother, Charlie (Sue Ellen) Swartz, of St. Marys; a sister, Melody Thrush, of St. Johns; a sister-in-law, Janet Swartz of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Swartz; and a brother-in-law, Junior Thrush.
He served in the Ohio Army National Guard.
He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in St. Marys after 33 years of service.
His memberships included Eagles Lodge Aerie 767, American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289, all in St. Marys.
He enjoyed fishing. Sam was a family man who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Jon Kraner officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home on Ohio 703 West.
