RV on fire jams I-75

A recreational vehicle (RV) caught fire on northbound I-75 near milepost 113 at 2:38 p.m. on Sunday, July 13 in Wapakoneta. No injuries were reported.

The Wapakoneta Fire Department officials responded to the scene where they discovered the RV engulfed in flames. A class A foam was applied to the fire. Uniopolis Fire Department was requested for mutual aid, which established water supply. The fire was reported under control at 3:14 p.m.

Miller Towing was called for removal of the RV. Auglaize County EMA was contacted and made aware of the incident. Wapakoneta Police Department was on scene.

Although the cause of fire was reported as unknown, the investigation indicated the fire started in the engine compartment. Fire fighters spoke with the owner of the vehicle, who said he heard a pop and saw blue smoke coming from the tailpipe, when smoke started coming into the RV from the engine compartment.
Property contents losses for the RV were reportedly $15,000.
