Russia hands Botkins 1st loss in SCAL match

August 23, 2013

From staff reports

The Botkins Trojans took their first loss of the season Thursday in a 169-187 defeat against the Russia Raiders in a Shelby County Athletic League varsity boys golf match at Stillwater Valley Golf Club in Versailles.

Only one Botkins score would have placed in Russia’s top four Thursday, as Alex Roberts’ 47 led the Trojans on Thursday.

Also for Botkins, Nick Okuley and Seth Hanna each carded 47, while Roger Miller shot a 49. Russia’s Austin Tebbe was the match medalist Thursday with a 39. Zack Sherman (42), Connor Monnin (43) and Gavin Hoying (45) concluded Russia’s scoring.

Thursday was the third time in three meetings this season that Russia has bested Botkins. The two teams have been in tournament fields for the SCAL Preview and the Cardinal Invitational.

For its next event, Botkins will participate in the Allen East Invitational starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
