Roy A. â€śDocâ€ť Kohler, 84, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
He was born April 10, 1929, in Wapakoneta, the son of Violet (Crouch) and Lawrence Kohler, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 2, 1955, he married Dorothy C. Ream, and she died July 12, 1988.
Surviving are three children, Chris (Ben) Estes, of Elida, Jeff (Brenda) Kohler, of Cridersville, and Rodney Kohler, of Lima; eight grandchildren, Kylie Knoch (Ben) Carpenter, Zachary Knoch, Harmony Kohler, Cheni Kohler, Akio Kohler, Abby Kohler, Alijah Kohler, and Ashley Kohler; three great-grandchildren, Jaiden Knoch, Jarrod Knoch, and Alexis Carpenter; three brothers, Lawrence â€śSpikeâ€ť (Dottie) Kohler, of Wapakoneta, Ken (Hannah) Kohler, of Wapakoneta, and Ron (Sue Ellen) Kohler, of Wapakoneta; and a sister-in-law, Susie Kohler, of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Mary Kohler; a grandson, Ryan Knoch; a brother, Edward Kohler, and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Roland) Hollenbacher.
Roy worked at the Excello Corp. in Lima and retired from J.B. Tool in Wapakoneta. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta. His other memberships included the V.F.W. Post 8445 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, both of Wapakoneta. His hobbies included dancing, fishing, gardening, and he enjoyed NASCAR and dirt track racing.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Becky Sunday officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
