VAN WERT â€” The Wapakoneta Redskins boys swimming team placed second and the girls team took third in the Cougar boys finished third in the Van Wert Cougars Sprint Relay Invitational on Saturday at the Van Wert YMCA.
The boys team scored 158 to finish behind first-place Versailles (172 points).
The girls tallied 174 points to finish behind Bryan (180 points) and Versailles (178 points).
Wapak has its first home meet Thursday at the Wapakoneta YMCA.
TROTWOOD â€” The Botkins Trojans swim team kicked off its season by attending the Troy Pentathlon in Trotwood.
More than 10 teams and 130 swimmers participated in the event. In the Pentathlon format, each swimmer swam a 50 of each stroke. The top 24 average times qualified to swim a 100 IM at the end of the meet.
Seniors Elleah Cooper and Logan Bauer had an outstanding meet.
Botkins had two girls qualify in the top 24, Cooper and Rachelle Maurer. Cooper finished 16th and Maurer 17th in the 100 IM.
For the boys, Logan Bauer placed seventh overall. Bauer will compete in his first diving competition Saturday at Ohio State University at the Ned Reeb Invitational. The swim team will be at the Sidney YMCA on Sunday for a tri-meet with Sidney and Lehman at 5:30 p.m.
COLDWATER â€” The Wapakoneta boys bowling team won, while the girls team suffered its first loss, Saturday at Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater.
The boys team topped New Bremen 3,106-2,589 for the win.
Chandler Kaeck rolled games of 244 and 223 for the Redskins. Luke Manger turned in rounds of 242 and 202.
The girls fell to Coldwater 2,640-2,422.
Haley Grieves rolled a 214 for the Redskins. Megan Gibson contributed a 206.
Both teams return to action Saturday at Astro Lanes in Wapak. The girls will bowl at 10 a.m. and the boys at 1 p.m.View more articles in:
