Roger L. Carnes, 54, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System following a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 2, 1957, in Lima, the son of Theresa (Benny) and Emmett Carnes. His mother survives in Wapakoneta and his father is deceased.
Also surviving are a son, Benjamin Carnes, of Wapakoneta; four sisters, Joyce (Joe) Morey, of Wapakoneta, Shirley (Duane) Hughes, of Wapakoneta; Betty Carnes, of Lima, and Mary (Bill) Napper, of Morral; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; two nieces; three nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews; a former wife, Joyce Pothast Hauenstein, of Wapakoneta; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Carnes.
Roger worked construction with various companies including the Tilton Corp. in Lima, and Peterson Construction in Wapakoneta. In 2002, he suffered a traumatic accident resulting in severe injuries to his spine and left leg. Then in 2003, he was recognized as the Lima Memorial Hospital Rehab Patient of the Year. He was a 1975 graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High School. Roger never met a stranger, and was a loving and caring person. He enjoyed racing, NASCAR, and muscle cars. He will be remembered as an organ donor with Lifeline of Ohio.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Phyllis Fetzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
