Robert Calvin Longsworth, 88, passed away from this life at 6:44 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at the Gardens of Wapakoneta surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Moulton Township, in Auglaize County, the son of Esther (Badertscher) and Lloyd Longworth, who preceded him in death. On April 9, 1947, he married Bernice J. Nuss, who preceded him in death Aug. 5, 2006.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Gayla) Longsworth, and Gary (Paula) Longsworth; a daughter-in-law, Janice Longsworth; four grandchildren, Gabriel Longsworth, Aaron (Alicia) Longsworth, Missy (Casey) Longsworth-Crisp, and Derek Longsworth; four step-grandchildren, David (Amanda) Moore, Daniel (Christie) Moore, Dean (Megan) Moore, and Misty (Brian) Hisle; four great-grandchildren, Alden Longsworth, Allison Longsworth, Alex Longsworth and Zachary Longsworth; six step-great-grandchildren, Tanner Catron, Hannah Hisle, Dakota Hisle, Dillan Moore, Dawson Moore, and Dax Moore; a sister Alice (Kenneth) Lynn; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nuss, and Naomi Longworth; and a brother-in-law, Melvin Nuss.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry R. Longsworth; two brothers, Bus Longworth, and James Longworth; and a sister, Mary Chiles.
Robert was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather.
He was a 1943 graduate of Blume High School.He was also a machinist at Minster Machine in Minster and later Industrial Equipment/Midmark in Versailles. Robert was recognized many times for the suggestions he made to IE/Midmark for the betterment of the company. He was a member of United Church of Christ in St. Marys. He volunteered his time and talent by making wooden keepsake boxes for all of the children being baptized into the church. Bob was always willing to help others and was never too busy to listen. Bob was a scout leader for troop 199, while his sons, Dennis and Larry were in the Boy Scouts.
Robertâ€™s avocation was his wood working and metal lathing skills. He enjoyed building small gasoline powered engines in his basement workshop where he made family heirlooms. He was a master craftsman. Bob also enjoyed photography and developing his own film. He enjoyed driving cars for Swaneyâ€™s and Greveâ€™s auto dealers.
Services of Thanksgiving and celebration will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with the Revs. Joy Miller and Ed Bray officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
