Robert F. “Bob” George, 93

Robert F. “Bob” George, 93, of Botkins, died at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. He was born Dec. 28, 1920, in Auglaize County, the son of Frank and Mary (Veit) George, who preceded him in death. On June 8, 1946, he married Evelyn A. Wieging, and she survives.

Other survivors include, three sons, Thomas (Mary) George, of Tallmadge, Ohio, Edward (Yvonne) George, of Vonore, Tenn., and Frank (Kathy) George, of Botkins, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Bill (Lisa) George, Aaron George, Courtney George, Ben (Kelly) George, Dane George, Kristen George and Erin George; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Viota Metzger, Gladolia Schneider, Florence Hughes and Carolyn Marx.

A 1938 graduate of Botkins High School, Bob served in the south Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II on board the USS LST #1029. A lifelong farmer, Bob worked as a milk tester with the DHIA, and was procurement manager with Fisher Cheese Co., in Wapakoneta.  He later worked as a health inspector with the Allen County Health Department and the Auglaize County Health Department. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Botkins, and the American Legion Heiland Post #446, Anna –Botkins. 

He enjoyed farming, caring for animals and his family. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Botkins, with Pastor Bob Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, in Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Heiland Post. 

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at the Long & Folk Chapel of the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 13 S. Blackhoof St., Wapakoneta, and one hour prior to the service, Saturday, at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Disabled American Veterans.
