Robert Evans, 90

Robert E. Evans, 90, of Lima, died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lima.
He was born May 13, 1921, in Lima, the son of Carrie (Phillips) and William Evans, who are both deceased.
Surviving are three sons, Ronald (Marsha) Evans, of Cincinnati, Gary Evans, of Elida, and Richard (Priscilla) Evans, of Wapakoneta; a brother, William Evans, of Lima; a sister, Sue Roider, of Baton Rouge, La.; three grandchildren, Shaney Evans, of Gardiner, Mont., Jessica Evans, of Bend, Ore., Carrie (Tom) Chilcote, of Chicago; and two great-grandchildren, Ivy Stermits of Gardiner, Mont., and Levi Chilcote, of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorthy Smith and Mary Blakeman.
He served in Africa, India and China while in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. During this time he was involved with the defense and offense of China. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.
He was a retired plumber-pipefitter and had worked many years for BF Kohli and Tilton Corp. He was a member of the Lima Fraternal Order of Eagles 370, Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post 8445 and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 766 of Lima.
He enjoyed being with his friends and socializing at the Casa Lu Al.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Cemetery, with the Rev. Melvin Vernhoff officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home in Delphos. A parish wake will be held at 7:30 p.m.
