Wapakoneta Elementary School staff hosted the annual Teacher's Retirement Tea Wednesday at the Wapakoneta High School cafeteria, honoring seven teachers who will retire at the end of the 2013-14 school year and one special woman who has dedicated over 10 years of service to the school district.

"Thank you for your lifelong dedication to education, for believing in children, for leaving an indelible mark on the future and for touching the human soul — you have made all the difference," WES teacher Karen Hutt said of the retirees.

Mark Cook, Ron Brown, Mary Ellen Fry, Janice Roberts, Jan Schlenker, Deb Shenk and Marlene Stedke were all honored for their service to Wapakoneta City Schools over the years.

Representing Wapakoneta High School, Cook and Brown will retire after 35 and 30 years, respectively. Fry will retire after 30 years of service to Wapakoneta Middle School, as well as Roberts, who dedicated 30 years to WES. Jan Schlenker, Deb Shenk and Marlene Stedke will retire from Cridersville Elementary School, where they have dedicated 33, 27 and 30 years of their lives.
