Ralph P. Meinerding, 89, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at The Gardens in Wapakoneta.
He was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Rose Hill, the son of Josephine (Hein) and Charles Meinerding, who preceded him in death. On June 13, 1946, he married Irene E. Staugler, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Pat (Dennis) Coyne, of Erlanger, Ky., and Barb (Bob) Kohlrieser, of Wapakoneta; seven grandchildren, Jenny (Eric) Reinkober, Mary Beth Coyne, Kevin Coyne, Cindy (Chris) Oliver, Katie (Andy) Sheipline, Denise Kohlrieser, and Greg Kohlrieser; and four great-grandchildren, Helen, Joe, Laird and Abby.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Meinerding, who died in 1977; and two brothers, Jerome & Herbert Meinerding.
Ralph owned and operated Meinerdingâ€™s in Wapakoneta for 12 years. He later worked at Pantry Pride in Wapakoneta. He was a member of St. Johnâ€™s Catholic Church in Lima where he was a Eucharist minister, usher, greeter, and served for funeral masses. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army, 237th Engineer Battalion Medical Detachment. He was a member of the VFW. Post 8445 in Wapakoneta. His hobbies included gardening, playing cards, woodworking, making doll houses, but most especially spending time with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Johnâ€™s Catholic Church in Lima, with the Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta VFW Post 8445.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
