The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Kalida Wildcats in the Redskinsâ€™ season opener Monday at Ryan Field in Wapakoneta.
Kalida took a big early lead with three goals in the first. The Wildcats scored in the 16th, 23rd and 33rd minutes before adding a fourth goal to put the game out of reach less than three minutes into the second half.
Kalida outshot Wapak 20-10 overall and 12-8 on-goal. Colin Mankin and Adam Johnson each had two shots on goal for Wapak but could not convert.
Redskinsâ€™ goalkeeper Zach Holtzapple had eight saves.
The junior varsity team lost 2-0. Wapak is 0-1 on the season. The Redskins return to action Thursday at home against Temple Christian.

ST. MARYS â€” The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls cross country team won a quad meet at St. Marys, besting the host Roughriders.
Wapak had three runners in the top seven and six in the top 12.
Summer Griner was the top Redskins finisher, taking fifth with a time of 23:15.15.
Saira Brown was sixth at 23:35.87. Jessica Plaugherâ€™s 23:49.13 was good enough for seventh.
Jenna Sawmiller (23:58.10), Megan Watt (24:05.65) and Courtney Musgrove (24.46.46) were the other top Wapak finishers.
Wapak scored 26 team points. St. Marys was second with 47 followed by New Bremenâ€™s 56.
The Wapak boys scored 86 points to finish third behind St. Marys (30) and new Bremen (34). New Knoxville was fourth at 92.
Nate Valentine (20:14.09) was the Redskinsâ€™ top finisher at 13th. Alex Benny turned in a 20:25.10 to take 16th.
GOLF: Fairbanks 182, W-G 217
FAIRBANKS â€” The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity boys golf team dropped a dual match against Fairbanks at Darby Creek.
Garrett Hauenstein led W-G with a 46, followed by Eric Shaner (54), Justus Ball (58) and Ryan Agnew (59).
Fairbanksâ€™ Blake Leeds and Dylan Benedict both shot a match-best 42.
