Portman: Basic math key to budget bill

The problem with the Affordable Care Act and raising the debt limit, Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman says, can be reduced to simple math.
“The underlying problem here is overspending — it is not a partisan comment and it is not a ideological comment, it is a question of math,” Portman said Thursday during a media teleconference. “The government cannot continue to spend more than it takes in. The economy, in my view, is not going to pick up until we deal with this $17 trillion debt that is acting like a wet blanket on the economy.”
