Pork powers park progress

October 17, 2013

Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimist club members work on installing playground equipment at Breakfast Optimist Park, the former site of Centennial Elementary School. Proceeds from a pulled pork dinner fundraiser this Friday organized by the club will go toward installing the equipment and making other improvements at the park.

The Breakfast Optimist club is hosting a pulled pork dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday as a fundraiser for the new playground and park on Water Street, in the location of the previous Centennial Elementary School where they have been working to add the second phase of playground equipment.

“This is one of our two big fundraisers we have throughout the year that we do to raise funds for the community,” Breakfast Optimist Past President Terry Blosser said.

The dinner is available for pick-up only in the St. Paul United Church of Christ parking lot. A $7 ticket includes pulled pork, coleslaw and chips and can be purchased by calling members of the Breakfast Optimist. Blosser said he expects to sell approximately 600 pulled pork dinners.
