A first-time downtown event is hoping to attract thrifty shoppers looking for a deal on summer items, a Wapakoneta shop owner and event organizer says, as downtown business owners take steps to make room for holiday fare.

“Pickin’ in Downtown Wapakoneta” is a street and sidewalk sale sponsored by the Wapakoneta Antiques and Specialty Shops (WASS) and is to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

“It is a summer clearance sale as we are starting to get ready for the holiday open house scheduled for Nov. 1, 2 and 3,” Casa Chic co-owner Landa Tomlinson said. “We are just trying to reduce inventory so we can make room for new items for the holiday season.
