Personnel matters approved

September 30, 2011

Supplemental contracts and other personnel matters were approved during a regular meeting of the Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education this week.
Other matters also approved included donations, acceptance of inter-district open enrollment students and attendance on an overnight field trip for high school students to attend the FFA National Convention.
Two donations accepted were from Dr. Matthew M. Jose, with $1,500 donated to the tennis courts and $1,725 to Great Lakes Theatre.
Wapakoneta City Schools board member Ron Mertz thanked Jose and others for their donations as well as for the schools’ PTOs.
“They really help us out,” Mertz said. “We can’t do without either one.”
David Kuck was hired as a bus driver for four hours per day, 188 days a year at $16.11 an hour beginning Tuesday. He replaces a bus driver who recently retired.
Sean Heights was hired as a custodian for eight hours per day, 260 days a year, at $15.04 an hour beginning Monday. He is expected to work a variety of shifts at multiple buildings in the district.
Superintendent Keith Horner said the district remains down one custodian from where it was two years ago.
He said supplemental contracts approved are not part of recent reductions, those contracts include:

Board member accepted the resignation of Lou Seddelmeyer, who was employed in a supplemental position as varsity girls basketball assistant coach.
“He will be missed,” Mertz said. “He has been in that position many years.”
Dave Copeland was approved as a volunteer for girls junior high basketball.
A list of 12 substitute teachers, two substitute paraeducators and a substitute secretary also was approved for the 2011-12 school year.
Board members met in executive session to discuss the appointment or employment of public employees and to prepare for, conduct and review negotiations with public employees, with no action taken.
Horner said they have a meeting scheduled for Tuesday with non-classified staff and are working to schedule a meeting with classified staff as negotiations continue.
