Missing an expected petition to separate tournaments between public and non-public schools, the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors approved eight referendum items to be placed on next May’s ballot.
The deadline to submit any petition to place a proposal was Monday, Dec. 2, and so for at least until the spring of 2015, no such competitive balance proposal will be up for vote among OHSAA member schools.
One of the eight referendum items approved Thursday was a proposal to allow the OHSAA to fine member schools for not returning annual ballot votes by deadline.
The board also approved two proposals from the baseball and softball coaches associations.
First, in the 2014 baseball and softball tournament regulations, the number of players on the tournament roster has been expanded to 22 players.
Second, in the 2014-15 school year season regulations for baseball and softball, the number of games in which an individual player may participate has been expanded to 32 games. The 27-game regular-season contest limit will still apply for teams, but the increased number of games in which an individual student may participate allows for situations such as a junior varsity player getting into a handful of varsity games and vice versa.View more articles in:
