Norma Jean Smith, 79
Norma Jean Smith, 79, of 14 Defiance Commons, Wapakoneta, died at 4:07 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 16, 1933, in Auglaize County, near New Knoxville, the daughter of Viola (Klute) and Raymond Wierwille.
She is survived by her two children, Glen (Nancy) Smith, of Wapakoneta, Gloria (Frank) Counts, of Sidney; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a dear friend; Kenneth Brown Sr., of Wapakoneta; two brothers, James Wierwille and New Wierwille, both of New Knoxville; a niece, Cathy (John) Rupert, of St. Marys; and a nephew, Jim Wierwille, of Cridersille.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Thomas “Tony” Wierwille, a daughter, Theresa Smith and a stillborn son.
Norma attended high school in New Knoxville. She retired from Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys after 27 years in the housekeeping department.
She enjoyed dancing and loved working on puzzle books. She was a member of Wapakoneta Eagles Lodge 691. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville.
Funeral rites will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, St. Marys, with the Rev. David Williams officiating. Private family burial rites will be held at a later date.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to Putnam County Hospice.
