Niles Smith, 83

Niles D. “Bud” Smith, 83, of Cridersville, died at 6:24 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Otterbein-Cridersville Skilled Care Facility.
He was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Cridersville, the son of Wanda (Spyker) and Benjamin Smith. Both parents are deceased. On January 30, 1948, he married Betty Joan Miller, who died July 16, 2006.
He was a retired accountant with Standard Oil/Vistron of Lima. He was also a realtor with Holmes Reality. He was a 1946 graduate of Cridersville High School and then went on to graduate from Northwest Business College with an accounting degree. He was a member of the Cridersville United Methodist Church. He was a former board member with the Beacon Credit Union and was an avid exerciser with the Lima YWCA exercise club.
Survivors are a son, Johnny S. (Barbara) Smith, of Oakland, Tenn.; two daughters, Michele R. “Micki” (Paul) Neeley, of Leesville, S.C., Natalie L. Johnson, of Lima; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Smith and a sister, Lois Leiberick.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev. Jerry Wiles officiating. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery near Cridersville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cridersville Rescue Squad or Otterbein-Cridersville Skilled Care.
