November 1, 2013

NFL linebacker Devon McDonald signs his autograph for Wapakoneta Middle School students after a DARE assembly inspiring students to make good decisions.

Wapakoneta Middle School football fans received a surprise Thursday when NFL linebacker Devon McDonald gathered students for a DARE assembly.
The former Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Storm player visited the school with a message of hope. McDonald spoke about many youth-related issues, including bullying, goal-setting and good decision-making.
DARE Officer Samuel Blank organized the assembly with middle school guidance counselors as part of “Red Ribbon Week,” a week dedicated to spreading awareness about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
“We’re educating students about making good choices and decisions through life,” Blank said.
McDonald is a part of Sports World Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to sending professional athletes to schools to share their personal experiences.
For more information on the assembly, see the Friday, Nov. 1 edition of the Wapakoneta Daily News.
