When Amy Kentner, probably Wapakoneta’s best-known runner of note, made the decision to organize a run in Cleveland in honor of the movie “A Christmas Story,” even she had no idea how the idea would take off.
Kentner can regale the listener with the myriad of details associated with planning a run that seemingly has taken on a life of its own, but one of the details adds a little spring to her step these days.
Thanks to the Wapakoneta Rotary Club and member Nicole Bowen, the Christmas Story Run will also be offered in Wapakoneta on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Bowen has worked out the details of the route, which takes the runner from the starting point at Wapakoneta High School, up Wapak-Cridersville Road, east on Infirmary and south on 501 back to Redskin Trail and the high school.
The run begins at 9 a.m. and is offered in 5K and 10K options; 10K runners will run the route twice, Bowen said. Each registered runner receives a long-sleeved shirt, award, bib and Ovaltine
samples, a gift from one of the many sponsors of the race which will be run in many different locations, as well as the “home” race in Cleveland.
Locally, Bowen said, following the race, “A Christmas Story” movie will be shown for the participants and their fans.
Those wishing to participate must register at: http://speedy-feet.com/race-entry.php?id=900. The coupon code is WAPAKREDRIDERS.
Proceeds from the race will benefit Rotary projects, including the Children’s Hometown Holiday, also happening the same day, mainly in downtown Wapakoneta.
