New databases offered by library

August 17, 2011

The Auglaize County Public District Library (ACPDL) System recently installed three new database resources at its locations.
The new databases include Ancestry Library Edition, HeritageQuest Online, and Mango Languages.
“These three are brand new, but we are also emphasizing that we also have many other services for free to the public,” said assistant library director Diana Schneider. “I don’t think the public is aware of it as much as we like.”
The Mango Languages database allows patrons to search at home as well as the library. The self-paced curriculum courses are available in 34 languages as well as 15 different English as a second language courses.
The HeritageQuest online database also is accessible on the Internet as well as at the library. The database helps patrons interested in genealogy tracing by providing U.S. Census images from 1790-1930. The database also includes information on people and places described in family and local histories, the PERSI index, Revolutionary War Era pension, and Bounty-Land warrant application files, among other records to search.
The Ancestry Library Edition contains thousands of databases and billions of names covering the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court and immigration records.
The library plans to hold a workshop on how to use the two ancestry tracing databases from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Wapakoneta location.
“We are just trying to get the word out that these resources are available and everyone can take advantage of them,” Schneider said.
The HeritageQuest and Mango Languages databases can be accessed by going to auglaize.oplin.org and selecting the desired icon and entering a library card number. The subscription was made possible by the Auglaize County Genealogical Society, the Cridersville Historical Society and the New Knoxville Historical Society.
