New county administrator hired
The Auglaize County Board of Commissioners on Thursday hired Wapakoneta native Erica Preston as County Administrator.
Preston, 32, previously was a licensed practicing attorney in Columbus, according to Commissioner John Bergman. She now resides back in Wapakoneta.
Bergman said her starting salary will be $65,000 per year. Her first day will be no later than July 28, depending on how soon she can get free of obligations to her present position, Bergman said.
Preston was one of 27 candidates who applied for the position, which was vacated Jan. 14, when Mike Hensley resigned without notice. Hensley had been in the job for nearly two years.
Bergman said of the original 27, the board whittled the candidates down to nine.
“All were well qualified,” Bergman said. “She stood out as far as personality,” Bergman said. “She has a good aptitude and good attitude, good communication skills and speaks well,” Bergman said of the qualities that set Preston apart from the others.
“This was the best field of candidates I’ve ever seen,” Bergman said.
Preston said Friday she was humbled to be selected out of such a talented pool.
Preston moved back to Wapakoneta nine months ago and looks forward to working with the commissioners and the community.
