Ned Coon, 80

Ned F. Coon, 80, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:18 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 9, 1931, on his grandparents’ farm near Buckland, the son of Eva (Ramga) and Harley Coon, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Werst, of Wapakoneta; two sons, Tim (Pam) Coon, of Wapakoneta, and Matthew (Amy) Coon, of McCordsville, Ind; a grandson, Allen Thorpe, of Cincinnati; and a great-grandson, Jacob Thorpe, of Cincinnati.
Ned was a 1949 graduate of Blume High School. A highly skilled machinist, tool and die maker, Ned worked at several leading machine shops throughout Michigan, and Ohio, before finally retiring in 1995 from the Lima Engine Plant of Ford Motor Co. Ned was a founding member of the Shawnee Long Rifle Association, and past member of the National Muzzle Loader Rifle Association, National Rifle Association, Tri-State Gun Collectors Association, Brands Lake Fishing Club, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, Wapakoneta. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, going to auctions, and gun shows.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Wapakoneta EMS.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.
