Mothers, sons have fun night

February 27, 2012

Landon Butler, the son of Justin and Jessica Butler, takes his turn attempting to knock down cans at Saturday’s mother/son carnival at the Wapakoneta Elementary School.

The Wapakoneta Parent Teacher organization (PTO) held its annual mother-son fun night on Saturday.

Approximately 350 people attended the event, which was held with a “carnival” theme. It was the biggest turnout ever for the event, PTO President Shelley Mowery said.

In interest of the theme, plenty of games were available, including plinko, balloon animals, ring toss, corn hole, and a ping pong ball game. A game where kids could throw rubber baseballs at cans and attempt to knock them over seemed to draw a huge amount of attention. Students could win plenty of prizes and children carried around begs full of candy, pencils, and plenty of other goodies.

Students also had a craft table where they could create and color their own ties, and plenty of students showed off their creative ability by wearing the ties as they traveled from game to game.

Door prizes were given away and carnival team snacks such as cotton candy and popcorn was available to all the attendees.

Mowery credited Jamie Childress, chair for this year’s event, for her work she put into putting the event together.

The event was an overwhelming success according to the students.

“I had a lot of fun,” said student Landon Butler, the son of Jessica and Justin Butler.
