More vehicle thefts in city

September 19, 2012

Items have been reported stolen from two more vehicles left unlocked in Wapakoneta.

Wapakoneta Police Clerk Denise Kohler said more vehicles may have been entered, but people are not filing reports, especially if the thieves did not get away with anything and only ransacked the insides looking for items to steal.

“We are actively still working on this,” Kohler said. “We do have some people of interest.”

The latest reports made came from Julie Behr, 28, 306 W. Plum St., who reported that between late Sunday night and early Monday morning a purple iPod Nano 8G was taken from her 2011 Chevrolet.

The iPod was valued at $250, according to a police officer’s report from the Wapakoneta Police Department.

Another resident called about the theft of a GPS out of a vehicle in the 700 block of Ohio Street, but she did not want a report made. The vehicle also was unlocked and broken into during the same time frame.

In the past two weeks vehicle thefts have been reported on Lima, Bellefontaine, South Pine, South Rauthland, South Wagner, Erie and West Silver streets as well.

Kohler said a variety of items have been stolen, but many of them appear to be items that can be sold fast. A vehicle that had the keys left inside was stolen, but it was found crashed in a nearby construction area. At least one garage broken into in the area has been connected with the thefts.

All the vehicles, and the garage, broken into were unlocked.
