Mildred F. Steele, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:33 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born Nov. 17, 1926, in Pineville, Ky., the daughter of Sarah (Partin) and Luther Evans, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 25, 1953, she married Earl â€śBudâ€ť Gannon, and he died Sept. 9, 1961.
Surviving are six children, Earl Eugene â€śGeneâ€ť (Margie) Gannon, of Wapakoneta, Anita Jordan, of Columbus, Judy (Steve) Shaner, of Wapakoneta, Beverly (Tim) Bradner, of Findlay, Lisa (Michael) Dietz, of Hubert, N.C., and Theresa Blanton, of Grand Junction, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Numbers; a brother, Luther Evans Jr.; and two sisters, Beulah Evans and Dorothy Bair.
A homemaker, Mildred worked at the Lima Ordinance Depot during World War II. She also worked at Sealts Cleaners of Lima, Holmes Cleaners of Effingham, Ill., and as a nurseâ€™s aide. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, Auxiliary, Wapakoneta, and the AARP. Her hobbies included playing poker, bingo, and shopping on QVC. Mildred was an avid Elvis Presley fan, loved to laugh and tell jokes, and loved animals.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with Rosalie Lora officiating. Burial is to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
