Meningitis reported

October 18, 2013

Jones

Several recent cases of viral meningitis in the area have gotten the attention of local health officials.
“We are looking for commonalities but haven’t found any,” Auglaize County Nursing Supervisor Cindy Jones said of the several cases reported in Auglaize, Mercer and Van Wert counties. “It is unusual to have this many.”
She said many of the cases have been reported in young children and a majority have been in Mercer County.
She said the cases they have seen were all reported within weeks of each other. Auglaize County had two reported cases of viral meningitis in this time frame — one in a 43-year-old woman and one in a 19-year-old man — who also did not have any commonalities.
For more information on the meningitis, see the Saturday, Oct. 19 edition of the Wapakoneta Daily News.
