Mary Kathryn Place Baker, 93

Mary Kathryn Place Baker, 93, of Wapakoneta, passed away 6:03 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011. She was born Jan. 14, 1918, the first daughter of Stanley B. and Lela (Graessle) Place, who preceded her in death.
On Sept. 27, 1939, she married Robert F. Baker, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Other survivors include, five children, Dr. Ellen (Dr. John Doolittle) Baker, of Washington, D.C., John (Bernadine) Baker, of Columbus, Dr. Ann (Dr. Fred Ryan) Baker, of Lima, Bruce (Pam) Baker, of Buckland, Martha Baker, of Lima, six grandchildren, Sarah Baker (Mark) Franks, Alexis Baker, Andrew (Abby) Baker, Vanessa Baker, Aaron Baker and Elizabeth Ryan, a step-granddaughter, Olivia Jones-Franks, siblings Susan (James) Kinstle, of Delphos, Georgene Roth, of Midlothian, Va., Stanley B. (Bernice) Place, Jr., of Creswell, NC, Karin (Tarlton) Whetstone, of Buckland, brother-in-law, Dr. William N. Pigozzi, of Lima, and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ned W. and William D. Place, and two sisters, Betty Place Pigozzi and Julia Place Mercer.
Mary worked with her husband, Dr. Bob, in his veterinary practice over the years. She and her husband attended many veterinary meetings, and she was active in the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary. A 1935 graduate of Buckland High School, she was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, and a founding member of the Cridersville Historical Society. This past Tuesday, Sept. 27, Mary and Bob celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary with a family gathering in their home. She was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Wapakoneta High School Redskins.
Private family services will be held at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Auglaize Co. Humane Society. Condolences may be expressed at www.bayliffandeleyfh.com.
