Mary Jane Altherr, 82 of Tipton, Ind., died at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at her residence..
She was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Frankfort, Ind., the daughter of Mary Blanche (Spaulding) and Carl Russell Kelley. On Sept. 4, 1954, she married Eugene Altherr, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1996.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Legion of Mary, St. Christopher Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by six children, Chris Altherr, of Tipton, Ind., Mary Altherr, of Indianapolis, Joe Altherr, of Wapakoneta, Pete (Michelle) Altherr, of Tipton, Ind., Mickie Altherr, of Tipton, Ind., and Sharon (Hink) Hinkle, of Tipton, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Wendy Thomas, Kala Altherr, Aeriel Jennings, Katrina Altherr, Tabitha Altherr, Jasmine Altherr, Andy Hinkle, Emily Hinkle, Belle Rogers, Maddie Altherr and Marcus Altherr; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Richard Kelley.
Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton, Ind., with the Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Tipton, Ind.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton, Ind., where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
