Marie E. Bilyj, 88

Marie E. Bilyj, 88, of Wapakoneta, formerly of Dover, N.H., died at 6:01 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Otterbein Cridersville.
She was born July 10, 1923, in Crawfordsville, Ind., the daughter of Clenna (Odle) and George Galloway, who preceded her in death.
She was married to Stephen A. Bilyj for 34 years, and he died Sept. 5, 1998.
Surviving are a sister, Virginia (Charles) Brown, of Lima; 23 nieces and nephews, Stephen Bilyj, Cynthia Waters, Diane Garlock, Bruce Stinebaugh, George Stinebaugh, Judy DuBois, Tom Stinebaugh, Dan Stinebaugh, Tony Stinebaugh, Ginger Kiefer, Lorna Stewart, Linda Carter, Shelly Folk, Stacy Thompson, David Bryan, Chuck Bryan, Jim Bryan, Patricia Galloway, Mike Galloway, Tim Galloway, Rod Gunter, Stephanie Ross, and Nicole Huff; numerous great-nieces and great nephews; and her dachshund, Billy.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Stinebaugh and Cathleen Gunter; and a brother, Tom Galloway.
Marie was a registered nurse and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army. She served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, and was the oldest surviving female veteran in Auglaize County. A Catholic, Marie enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid reader.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Matthew Lee officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta VFW Post 8445.
Friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
